Romans/English
Gorgeous autumn day and a walk to match through the Gosford Estate. Lots of photos of autumn leaves, geese and wild boar, but I liked these toadstools (mushrooms?) best.
After that a friend from College who was up in Edinburgh for a school reunion, popped by for a boozy, gingerbread-full gossip. Nice to catch up a bit.
This morning Katherine was listening to the Proclaimers and has decided that the song 'Cap in Hand' is her new favourite song. I asked if she knew what it was about and she answered "Well this man says he's really clever but he doesn't understand why we let someone else rule our land. I'm not sure if he's talking about the Romans or the English, but one of them."
That'll do for me. At some point one of us will have a quiet chat to her about recent British history (she knows all about the earlier stuff already) including oil, Thatcher (hiss) and comparative funding across the UK. I'm sure there's probably a "What did the Romans ever do for us?" sketch to be made out of that. But probably a shorter one.
Very parochial write up tonight - sorry about that. As an English person living in Scotland I don't feel entirely qualified to get stuck into it all and explain. Ever noticed, though, how hard it is to sing Proclaimers songs in an English accent? Even I keep slipping into an uncharacteristic parody.
