Covered bridge
Sunday
Since today promised to be another glorious sunny day, and since our church choir wasn't singing this morning, so we weren't going to be at church all morning, we decided it would be a good day to drive up to Hueston Woods area and go biking in the countryside around there, something I've been wanting to do for a while, but we need more time than we often have on a weekend. So we got up early to go to first service, then came home to get changed and load the bike (tandem) on the car, then set off. Roger had planned out a 24-mile route using Google Maps, starting in Hueston Woods State Park. On the way to the park we passed this covered bridge. One of the few remaining covered bridges in southwestern Ohio and the only one in Butler County on its original site, Pugh's Mill Bridge was built in 1868-1869 over Four Mile (Talawanda) Creek to give access to a saw and grist mill owned by James B. Pugh. The mill ceased operation after two decades. The name of the bridge gradually changed to Black Bridge, likely because there was a white covered bridge downstream. It is now a registered historic structure. We had a good bike ride on quiet country lanes through the farm land around Hueston Woods, passing a historic chapel and crossing over a few streams.
