Perfection In Everything
We got rained out today, didn't stop us though, I've been dying to experience tea ceremony, or 'Sadou' the way of tea, for years. So we went to the Urasenke Chado Research Centre, a school where accomplished tea masters come to perfect their art.
Because it was so rainy we were lucky enough to get a private demonstration from a lovely old lady who had been studying for over 40 years.
I was utterly transfixed by her grace and poise, everything she did was perfect economy of movement and it was executed perfectly.
We then got a lesson in how to conduct tea ceremony and I can see how it would take years of study to produce a passable service.
This is something uniquely intrinsic to Japanese culture, attention to detail. Even the manhole covers are small works of art.
It is a country you could spend your life exploring.
Sorry for the lack of pictures, but tea ceremony is highly ritualised and serious affair, no blips for me, maybe next time! ;)
Here are a couple of nice man hole covers instead!
