The Very Hungry Caterpillar

This blip photo is of a creature that is sharing our Pinecrest campsite with us....a very hungry caterpillar. The boys first noticed him on a tree and of course I swooped in on it and decided to practice taking a pic with the macro feature on my camera to try to capture the fine fuzziness of this little guy. I have no idea what kind of creature this will turn into...but on doing a little research I suspect it will be a moth and looks similar to the 'Orgyia vetusta' caterpillar. I have to admit that I'm not too keen on bugs...but have to feign enthusiasm when 3 excited boys come up to me to show me the treasure that they found. I kind of figured the forest didn't need another moth, considering they were really 'bugging' us when we were trying to play games after dinner. To play the game of Uno in a dark forest, it required a lantern....and with a lantern, the moths came in masses. I suppose they will be meals for the HUGE crows that also inhabited the area....judging by their wingspans, they have been eating many-a-moth.

Today the boys gathered firewood, played with sticks & rocks, played marbles, attempted some fishing (unsuccessfully), watched the pup enjoy his first-ever trot into the lake, rode their scooters down the campgrounds hill, enjoyed smoothies from the camp store, roasted marshmallows for S'mores and played more Mad Libs in the tent before nodding off for the night. I would think that would be a perfect day through the eyes of three boys (with the exception of not catching a fish :D )
