There's guy works down the chip shop....
swears he's Elvis!
Note for our American cousins...what you call chips, we call crisps, what we call chips you call French Fries.
But I digress. You see there isn't a guy working down the chip shop any more, in fact there isn't a chip shop any more! And I didn't know about it!
First home from work tonight and just fancied something with chips for tea. Haven't had them in ages, so was really looking forward to them, golden brown, lashings of salt and vinegar, and of course tomato ketchup. Yummy, yummy.
The Boss and the Daughter got home, I explained the plan and they went for it big style. But where to go? We have 3 Chinese take aways, an Indian take away and a traditional chippy within easy distance. It's Tuesday so the Golden Moon is shut, pity, a portion from there is about 120 chips. Still there's alway the Mile Lane Chippy.
Only, the Daughter informed me there isn't any more, it's shut down for good!
Seemingly the guy who ran it only rented the building and the owner has been playing silly sods and threatening to double the rent or close the shop. So, they waited until the landlord went on holiday and then stripped out all the fryers, counters, ovens etc and flitted.
Is this the beginning of the end of civilisation as we know it? No local chippy! Hell's teeth there'll be some families starving on Friday evenings!
I tried to blip the empty shop but it was too dark and the flash just flared back off the empty window, so I took this shot of a leaflet for another chippy several miles away which serves fish the size of a small battered whale, but it was voted Britain's Best last year!
We managed to find some chips at the Hong Kong, but they're not the same, they don't even have salt and vinegar.
Bet the empty shop reopens soon as an Indian take-away....well that's what happened to the local Post Office last year.
Das vidanya.
