Iron Age Bones
Over the last 2 or 3 years we have archaeologically excavated our back garden in order to assess when our village was formed.
On our very second Test Pit we happened on a feature that turned our to be an Iron Age ditch.
From that pit and subsequent excavations along the ditch we uncovered a lot of pieces of animal bone and teeth which are pictured here.
They are all labelled according to the pit, the year and the layer in which they were found. Big bones on the right, teeth bottom left, fragments top left, vertebrae top middle, smaller complete bones middle bottom.
These bones are undoubtedly around 2000 years old because of the dateable pottery sherds found with them (more about those later).
Good eh?!
