Immigrants

Weather is very windy and cold today, short sharp showers, then the sun comes out. On the way back from Town I saw these Wild Geese, what sort I don't know. We get about 15,000 arriving every winter from Russia etc. They colonise the Rhine Flood Plains and fly out every morning to graze the meadows. You cannot get closer than about 50 yards or so, then they move away, about Shotgun Range !To see them flighting in , huge Skeins of maybe 100 to 150 birds are a lovely sight. they fly on clear , moonlit nights too, honking to each other as they fly, Wonderful !!When grazing, some eat, others act as Sentries, keeping a wary eye open for Intruders. These Immigrants are very welcome......
