Birthday Boy!
No, not him! This is Dick Gaughan - who is amazing and great, thoroughly worth seeing and hearing, interesting and talks a lot of sense and is fun into the bargain! The fact that he was prepared to come to a small island off the far north of Scotland on a wet, cold and very windy night is also somewhat of a plus point in his favour.
It was the Skipper's birthday - a special one with a 0 in it - so we went to the village hall and celebrated in the company of lots of friends and this gentleman. A great way to spend an evening.
Made a chocolate cake by way of celebration too, but I put it in a loose bottomed tin and it ran out all over the bottom of the oven! As I was scraping it up with a fish slice two lots of Jehovah's witnesses came to the door, one pair straight after the other. We had a bit of a joke about what saving they were offering - souls or cakes! The cake left in the tin was very thin so it has become the bottom of a sort of chocolate flan, covered in what was going to be the cake filling, a mixture of dried fruit soaked in brandy! We ate it with a generous serving of double cream and it was wonderful! Will have to do it again in a proper sort of tin and see what it should have been like . . . . .
