Bunch of hoodlums
Yesterday we discovered the ducklings had managed to dig a tunnel under the oil tank and out of their pen. Of course their Mum was too big to get out of the hole so they then spent ages running around being very distressed and not being able to find their way back in.
So, as we had been about to enlarge their enclosure in the next few days anyway we just did it a bit earlier. Fenced off a much bigger area, sorted out a swimming pool and made sure they couldn't get back into the bit with the oil tank.
Or so we thought!
Today I caught them all inside the fence around the oil tank peeping and shouting at their mum because they couldn't get out. Honestly, some folk are never happy.
..............................
As we expected we lost a few in the first week and we now have seven left. All seem to be thriving but we are a bit concerned that it's getting very cold at night now. We've provided them with a shelter and a nice cosy nest but ducks are funny things they seem to prefer to be out in all weathers. Hopefully Trout will keep them all warm but they are getting a bit big to all fit under her wings.
