Circe's Spring
There are so many stories told by the people of this island. They say the beginning of the Christian era was announced by a voice from a ship sailing between the island and the mainland calling out that 'the great God Pan is dead'. And there is the tale of wartime resistance fighters capturing a german submarine and hiding it in one of the deep cavs on the island's west coast.
The oldest story I know of is about Circe's spring. This spring in the hamlet of Gramatika beside the monastry of Ipapanti is said to be the spring where Odysseus brought his sailors to replenish his ship's water and that Circe cast an enchantment on him such that he stayed for several years.
But then again there are other Greek islands that lay claim to this story...
