Hande Hoch!

This is the business end of the barrel of the deck gun of the WWI German submarine, U19. It was presented to the people of Bangor in 1922 in honour of a local war hero, and placed in Bangor's Ward Park. The submarine fought in the Battle of Jutland on the opposite side of our own HMS Caroline (which may be the subject of another Blip very soon), which has been docked in the Port of Belfast since the 1920s and used as a training ship for naval cadets.

The gun itself, was painted pink by some local vandals, in the 1980s, but was restored to it's former glory by the council shortly afterwards.

I'm fairly confident that I've Blipped this subject before but not with my wide angle lens. The large obelisk in the background is the War Memorial.
