Earth in Styrofoam

Started the morning with an unexpected meeting at the school that lasted for a couple of hours...but well worth attending. The school is piloting an online program to help parents work with kids based on the level they are at. They discussed this for a while and how we as parents earn extra volunteer hours for viewing these online 'parent classes' that help us help our kids to succeed. They also gave alot of suggestions to help with reading readiness.

Afterwards I had a nice lunch with my friend Sheila at the Spaghetti Factory. She had a gift card there and treated us. It was nice to catch up since life has been so hectic and we hadn't talked in a while. We split a Cobb Salad and Crab-Stuffed Raviolis. Yum!

Tonight after all 3 boys had soccer practice...Loren had a late night of school projects. The one seen in my blip photo is a 'slice' cut out of earth showing the inside structure of the earth's layers. Loren had to mathematically convert the size of each layer of earth from kilometers to centimeters to fit on the surface of the 8" styrofoam ball with a quarter sliced out. You can see all of the conversions on his paper in the picture. So glad it wasn't me trying to figure it all out....I'd have to return to school to 'brush up' on all of it. Luckily only the cutting, measurements, labeling and design for the base was due tomorrow...painting each layer and surface is due next week. He also has an 'Early Man' project due tomorrow for Life Science in which he chose 'homo erectus'....a term I can't say with a serious face. Wow...quite the introduction to middle school....4 projects due within 6 weeks!
