a life in photos

SPARE A THOUGHT...

For the fixit guys.
My work colleagues have been on the go since early Saturday morning the day of the quake... they have worked a 14 hr day and a 12 hr day.
Their task is horrendously hard, and made harder by two things...
they can't see what has happened to the water and sewer pipes under the ground, but can only guess from the above ground damage, and the after shocks are creating new breaks and leaks all the time
Unfortunately, its not going to be a quick fix, the damage to the pipes has been severe, pump stations have lifted or sunk, pipes have bent and shifted, split and broken. People are desparate to have water and sewer back on, and the guys are doing their utmost to make it happen. They fix one section of pipe and leaks that are evident, turn the water back on and ............ as you can see in the photo ..... it blows up somewhere else.
These guys are litterally pushing s**t uphill to get services restored, they come back to the office totally shattered, go home, sleep (or not as aftershocks continue to hit), and come back the next day to put their heart and sole into helping repair the damage and return essential services to their community. Yes it is their job, the job they are paid to do, but they would do it regardless to ensure those vital services are restored.
