Earthquake
My blip tells the story, but I will enlarge on it a little.
This hit the Canterbury area at 4.35 this morning. I was lying in bed awake and heard what sounded like a herd of cattle going over our roof, followed by shaking, swaying, doors banging & a sqeaking/grounching sound in our wooden house. Once we had realised what was going on we quickly, with hearts pounding, went to shelter under the door frames, having to hold on to each other and the door frame. Bloody hell - scary stuff!!!
I have never been so frightened ever, and though this could have been the end!!! It subsided but the after shakes were almost as bad. These continued randomly for many hours .
Very little damage here, we are approx 100 miles from the centre....just some glasses off shelves, and picture fames etc, and damage to my nerves ofcourse.
In the city of Christchurch there is a huge amount of structure damage, flooding, subsidences, sand volcanos, power outages, etc.... and a state of Civil Emergency has been declared.
No loss of life fortunately, some minor injuries & two serious injuries....however, there is a lot upset families who will be without their homes for some time, and have lost a lot of personal treasures.....I feel for them.
Doug is a roading engineer, and has been dealing with land slips and bridge concerns, the phone has not stopped.
Another sad day for Canterbury.
PS: Have just heard a news flash that a plane has crashed on the Fox Glacier killing 3 occupants, another tragic happening for the South Island.
PPS: I worry about my blip friends in the Christchurch area
PPSS: The sun is shining.
:)
This added later - the death toll of the Fox Glacier is now 9 tourists, so so aweful
