Agnes Falls

It was a lovely day today with a hint of Spring in the air! We woke up to blue skies and only a little bit of wind so Spence had a play outside in his gumboots! It has rained a lot in the past week so there is still a lot of water on the ground.

We went for a drive up to Agnes Falls which is the biggest single span waterfall in Victoria at 59 meters. My Aunty Kay lives just near there so we have been heaps of times, but I wanted to go today because of all the rain we have had. Usually there is just a trickle! It's only a short walk along the path up to the viewing platform and Spence loved seeing the tall trees with birds in them, the wombat holes and the all the water coming down. At one stage though he said that it was too loud an he wanted us to turn it off!!

The Agnes River (which the Agnes Falls are a part of) is about 30km long meandering its way through the hills from an area called Christies, down through Wonyip, Woorarra East, Hazel Park (where the Falls are), Agnes (near where I grew up) then ends up flowing into Corner Inlet. As kids, the Agnes River was the northern boundary of our farm so we used to take the tractor with a trailer on the back loaded with Mum and us 4 kids, food and drinks and we would have a bbq by the river and go swimming. There used to be a platypus that lived there too!

Now the whole river area is fenced off and cleared of all the trees that lined it because it is part of the water catchment area for drinking water. Dad and I went up on the four wheeler motorbike last time I was home to have a look at all the work they have done there. It's just not the same now!
