Hover fly on Japanese Anemone

Hover flies are like tiny wasps in colour but totally silent when they fly. Completely harmless to us, they dart from place to place and their larvae feast on aphids. In late summer when the fennel is in flower there are masses of them, of all shapes and sizes, in the garden. Although I took a photo of one on the fennel, this Japanese Anemone made a better picture.
