Lower Manhattan Night

The double circle of blue lights of the Jewish Memorial Holocaust Museum glow, near Battery Park, from where one can take the boat out to the Statue of Liberty. Superimposed is the reflection of my bed at my friend's apartment on the 23rd floor, with the shadow of my fingers as I hold my hand - palm open - to this glittering vista. The night conceals the Verrazano-Narrows bridge under which the Norwegian-American Line ship paused the night before our arrival to the 59th St Pier. The bridge was lit by strings of lights and under these, that cute Argentinian piano player gave me my first kiss some 38 years ago. Welcome to New York by night ... again! I hope that piano player is alive and well and a grandfather of beautiful children who will know how to grow beans and coffee and bananas and corn.
