Mumma duck and baby duck

Tuesday seems to be my Stanley Park day.  I've been there every Tuesday I've been in Canada (that's 3 in case you are wondering)

Here's mum and baby duck sitting on a rock.  I always thought ducklings came in large groups so I don't know why there seems to be only 1?
