Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

San Francisco Summer Sunday

We have had another fun and full day in San Francisco.

We started our morning by attending the 11 o'clock worship service at Grace Cathedral. We've been to this building several times previously but never had the opportunity to attend a service. From the balcony in the back of the building, the choir sand and was accompanied by the organ which has pipes in the front and the back of the building--the combination was enormous music.

Then we took the recommendation of another blipper, to stop in at the Nob Hill Cafe for a delicious Italian meal. It's located just down the street from the cathedral. We were delighted when the waitress escorted us to a table for two at the front window and there we enjoyed a fabulous brunch. We'll definitely eat there again on future visits to this unique city. (Thank you Ralph!)

After eating we started walking with no particular destination. We were strolling along on California Street to get a photo of the large gateway to Chinatown when we saw a tow truck driving along the cable car tracks pulling a broken cable car. Mr. Fun had the camera at the moment and I said, "You've got to get that!" He did, but because yesterday's photo contained a cable car I've decided to use a different angle of the city for today's blip.

We were passing St. Mary's Cathedral when a bridal party arrived in a limo--all the girls except the bride. I asked Mr. Fun if we could wait for the next limo because I was sure the bride would be inside -- and she was. As she stepped from the vehicle, Mr. Fun was several yards away from her on one side and I was on the other (plus lots of others taking photos). As she lifted her skirts to step up the stairs into the building we were both taking photos. When Mr. Fun and I reconnected, I had tears running down my face and he said, "Gosh, I could tell from where I was standing you were getting all emotional while taking photos!" He just laughed and shook his head (he knows I'm addicted to weddings). Sigh!

Well, when that high moment ended, we continued walking. The sidewalks were filled with people--every size, shape, color, hairdo, and clothing that can be imagined. We walked through several areas filled with the sounds of live music, so we paused at each to enjoy. Throughout the afternoon, the aroma of delicious food was one continuous experience.

It was nearly 5:00 p.m. when we returned to our car in the underground parking at Grace Cathedral. From there we drove to the edge of the bay by Fort Point and took photos of the Golden Gate Bridge and then decided to drive to the ocean side of the bridge at Baker Beach where we watched the sunset. As we were leaving to drive back into the city and to our room, we saw the headlights on the bridge and stopped to take the final photos of the day.

This has been a lovely summer Sunday. Good night from San Francisco.
