A Taste of San Francisco

We were walking toward Chinatown this afternoon when I decided to aim my little point and shot at the Transamerica building. As I pushed the button, a cable car rolled into view. I was surprised and pleased. I hoped that when I downloaded the camera this evening it would be a worthwhile capture. It's not stellar photography, but it does reveal some of San Francisco.

So this is looking toward Powell Street with Chinatown just beyond. The Bay Bridge to Oakland can also be seen between the buildings.

The city was full of activity today and I think this photo reveals some of that. The cable cars were full. We rode one back toward our hotel which is near Van Ness and Lombard Streets.

We hopped off the cable car as it crossed Lombard Street just at the point where the curves begin. From every direction lines of cars were waiting to get onto Lombard to drive down one of the world's crookest and famous streets. We walked the opposite direction of the curves toward our hotel.

We walked and walked today and saw lots of this city and enjoyed ourselves immensely. We had breakfast Polk Street, walked to Grace Cathedral, and on to Chinatown. We found the fortune cookie company in Ross Alley and then we stopped in at the cable car museum to watch the gears and cables turning. Then we walked toward a cable car stop and got onto the next one going our way and eventually got back to our place. From there we walked to Union Street for dinner and then walked another mile or so down Uniion Street to look at the buildings.

We had a good day and we are tired. More walking tomorrow.
