Balustrade - Castle Ward
- Backblip - Northern Ireland Day 3
A full day visiting Castle Ward Estate. So much to see here. We first toured the 18th Century house half built in the Classical Style and the other half in Strawberry Gothic as the couple couldn't agree on the design. This is a detail of the Classical balustrade facing the grand lawn.
Sunken and rock gardens, woodland and shoreline walks with views over to the Mountains of Mourne, quay and boathouse, Temple Water with palm trees and ruins, and the Farmyard.
Later we drove on to Strangford, to see the Tidal Turbine, mentioned last night on the BBC1 "Coast" programme. It is easily seen from the ferry point, and seems to be under repair at the moment. An interesting way to generate electricity.
