Sharkie at the Helm
We had a late start today - ropes off at 12 noon - so went for a wander around Eyemouth in the morning. We had a look at the museum, which tells the tale of Black Friday. On 14th October 1881 the fishing fleet headed out to sea in calm sunny weather, by the afternoon an enormous storm had developed, centred on Eyemouth.
The fleet was split, some heading for home and others heading north, trying to outrun the storm. Many of those who headed for home were wrecked, and lost, within sight of their families. Some ran before the storm and ended up in Norway. In all 129 Eyemouth men lost their lives, the population of the village took over 50 years to recover.
Here is Sharkie at the helm of Talisman III, in the museum before we headed off to dive the wreck of the Venus.
