Thistle Down

This Is Me

I was a young girl then,
Growing up in a home where I was
Told what to do. I never made
Any decisions.

I helped with the house-work...
But we only washed dishes in a pan,
Took a bath in a tin-tub...and
Did our washing on a wash-board.

I never had any parties...we
Only had a kitchen and bed-room.
I spent my whole, young life
Sleeping in the same room with my
Mother and Father.

My father did trapping on Raft
River. My mother did other people's
hard work. We never spoke of love.

I never had any entertainment to
Make me laugh. I seldom went to my
Friends house. My mother said,
"Home is the Place for You", I sat
Out under the tree, fiddling my
Hands.

This is how I turned out. This is
The person I am...This is me.
