Author at Village Books
C and I went to hear Ivan Doig read from his latest novel, Work Song, at Village Books in Fairhaven this evening. We knew there would be a big turn-out for such a popular author, so we thought we'd go early to get a seat. We got there half an hour before the starting time to find the room already crowded. The bookstore staff kept squeezing in more chairs, but couldn't mange to seat everyone. Although the temperature and humidity levels steadily climbed to very uncomfortable levels, I wasn't aware of it once Doig started speaking and reading excerpts from his book.
After the question and answer session, there was a huge collective sigh of relief when Chuck Robinson announced that the book signing was going to be moved outdoors.
The Seattle Times featured an interesting interview with Ivan Doig recently. You can read it here. If you haven't read any of his books, it's time you did.
