Whites Covered Bridge - oops!

This is the historic Whites Bridge, and the third of the Truss Bridges in Michigan.

As you can see, something is amiss. Last January a man drove his Ford Explorer into the midspan of the bridge causing a gaping hole. It was classified as a hit-and-run because the man foolishly drove away but was later caught due to the notable damage to his vehicle.

Repairs are frustratingly slow for residents on both sides of the Flat River, who used this bridge daily, but the road commission insists on historical integrity for the materials used for the repairs.

There's still a nice view of the Flat River from the bridge.
