Getting our Snickers on Route 66
A long day with lots of driving: Laughlin (NV) to Palm Springs (CA) via the Mojave National Preserve. Lots of stunning scenery including mountains, salt lakes and sand dunes. Mojave really is the middle of nowhere. There is one small railroad depot (Kelso) - lots of excitement over two VERY long trains (92 trucks long) - and not a lot else. On the way out, Amboy is the first 'town' you come across.... a filling station with 'cafe' stocking only Snickers bars, bottles of water and bags of Doritos, a post office (closed) and a derelict motel. In it's favour, it is on the original Route 66!!!!
