Tears for Heroes Dressed in grey...

Being a mum is the hardest job in the world.

Never more so than when you have children who are vocally supportive of a team who their peers hate, for no other reason than being on the opposite side of the border.

I love big sporting occassions, none more so than the World Cup, but over the years have grown to hate it, as I, being Scottish, am privvy to the thoughts and comments of the majority of other Scots who want to be vocal in their hatred of the English Football Team.

A complete stranger last week on the train said to me, 'ha! Those wa%#kers will get a trashing tonight'. I hadn't even spoken - how did he know I wasn't English?

Another font of knowledge told me, after finding out my husband was English, that the problem was that the English don't have a sense of humour about the good hearted ribbing the Scots like to give! This just five minutes after he had come in announcing 'so
Glad those smug ba%#^rds got trounced last night'. And said, while he had been working in England he had been called Jock plently of times, and he hadn't been offended.

So this afternoon I sat heart in mouth as I listened to the match, and watched in horror as Hate filled comments started to pile up on facebook. My heart got heavier as Germany piled up the goals, and England hung their heads and got trounced. My heart was almost broken as I looked to my husband, son and daughter as they looked saddened at the lack of fight from England to come back to some
Honour!

But guess what? The match is over, and the three of them have moved on, deciding that its probably Germany, they will support now - they were the better team, and my daughter is completing her registration to play for Scotland at the Uk School games!

I can't move on from my despair tho - am at a loss as to how to tell people that the majority of English people actually do support Scotland when England aren't available, that I've sat at England matches in England and been cheered on by the English fans - and been called Jock and loved it, that I'm horrified at the racism that exists and they try to justify it by saying it is caused by the media.

I'm just totally saddened by the whole mess, and disgusted by the lack of humanity.
