Happy Birthday Livi...
Although today doesn't represent Livingston skatepark's exact birth date and the Livi Pure Fun Skate Party isn't as old as the skate park itself, the skate party, traditionally held on the last weekend in June is represented as it's birthday and today and this weekend we are celebrating it's 30 anniversary.
Even though it is the elder statesman of the scottish skate concrete, it is still the most revered and relevant park we have in this small precipitous country of Scotland. It still regularly spits out talent to every skate generation from the most unlikely of human stock giving a remarkarkable trend in international professional participants from a country not really suited to the weather requirements of the sport.
The apex of the weekend's events is the traditional 2 minutes to midnight session in Livi's legendary concrete bowl where we try to get as many people skating the bowl as possible at one time. I think I've seen as many as 9 people flying round it at ridiculous speeds and successfully negotiating it. It ain't pretty but it is a spectacle.
