going on a bug hunt
ive done quite a bit of education, outreach, and hands on projects over the past month for my americorps position but today was my day. finally something that i personally organized! i took students who had learned to do water quality testing via a project in their school funded by GLSI (the initiative i work with) to help me teach the kids at the 4H summer rec program about that same topic. what a wonderful way to pass along knowledge, right! it was just the beginning of quite a few things the group of us will be up to this summer, and it really went just splendid!
we did some macro-invertebrate testing to determine the water quality of a river (the class project did the same throughout the school year along with some chemical tests and the data will be used by local organizations). i love how close the little girl on the bottom is, checking out our catch! getting excited about the little critters!
