100th Camanachd Cup

As a kid I have great memories of two fantastic sporting events.

One, Scotland v The All Blacks at Murrayfield. What an experience, the trip trhough from the west, the walk up to the stadium, the noise, the excitement the drama... I can't remember who won but I guess it would be NZ.

But even more exciting - A late 70's Camanachd Cup final in Glasgow. I think it was Newtonmore v Kingussie but it was long time back and I wasn't supporting either so I'm not sure. My Dad took us along and we knew nothing about Shinty but I was blown away by the whole thing.

I still don't know much about Shinty but I love watching what has to be one of the maddest games in the world.

Today was the 100th Camanachd Cup final. Fantastic game, loads of excitement. Fast, furious, plenty of goals and the odd stramash to keep everyone on their toes. There is no stopping these guys, they seem to be able to stand up to anything - hi speed collisions, being whacked on the head with a caman or having there feet swept from under them... they just get up and get on with it. (professional footballers should take note)

Orkney has no history of the game, it's origins lie with the Gaels. Which is a pity as it would be great to have a local team to support. Today I was rooting for Inverary (the underdog, I can't help myself) but Fort William played a blinder and deserved their 3 - 1 win.

Excellent TV on a wet saturday afternoon. Apologies for the crap pic.

BTW - looks like todays 'tache pic is not happening. Mr Moustachio has mutinied and wont let Arrow take his pic... booo. It was a grey grandpa moustache, so I guess he was just getting into character.

Edit - Arrow managed to convince him.
