Huge
Here you see a huge "Taprogge" debris filter that is situated in the inlet of the condenser of unit EC 20.
It looks like a giant basket; about 2 meters in diameter and about 4 meters high.
Upstream of this filter a "flap" is fitted which directs the flow around the filter, thus creating a kind of cyclone.
The main purpose is to filter mussels out of the system.
Mussels, grow in the coolingwaterducts during summer.
We kill them by means of a environmently way: thermoshock.
We raise the coolingwatertemperature by means of circulation to 38° C.
The mussels are then killed and come off from the walls of the ducts.
The flowdirection by means of the cyclone remove the mussels from the basket and they are lead around the condenser by means of a bypass. The stopvalve in this bypass is opened when the flap in the inlet is leaving the center position and goes to an angle of 45°.
As you can see the piping is huge, thus ensuring enough coolingwater can pass the condenser..
EC 20 uses 19 cubic meters (19000 liters) per second for cooling....
