We are here! [Croatia, Day 1]

Early start, as in taxi arrival at 5.45 am (!). Dublin Airport is not a nice place to be for check-in, but when push came to shove we thought it was just as well that we turned up two hours before departure, since we had enough time to be unrushed for duty-free shopping. Got to Croatia a bit later than scheduled, then coach connection from Split to Makarska. Apartment excellent, but watch this space for update about promised seaview.

We'd both had a rough couple of days, and rest was essential after check-in. Before we knew it, the night had set in and it was time to go exploring. We found a lovely place to eat, and even lovelier places to drink. The night ended in a little bar popular with the locals and oozing with atmosphere. Not sure about the licensing laws. What looked like tourist police turned up and put a damper on things at 1.15 am, perhaps because it was all a bit noisy and upsetting for neighbouring residents.

We're told to expect good weather, but the important thing is that we're on holiday!
