Generations

This is a photo of a photo.

It is a piece of history and a family heirloom of recollection and pride. This is a picture of my great-great grandparents taken sometime in the latter 19th century not long after the American Civil War. From what I know, he was a poor boy from a homestead family in the hills of Western North Carolina. She was the daughter of a traveling preacher. They were married young, as was common for the time and later had over 12 children I think. My great-grandfather among them. My family say I have an uncanny resemblance to him....

Today is Mothers Day and all my Mother's side of the family has gathered to celebrate over Sunday brunch in the backyard of my Aunt Stephanie's house in Richmond. It was a beautiful sunny day and just the right temperature in the air. We sipped on mimosas and snacked on fresh fruit, chicken salad croissants, and homemade quiche. We do this sort of thing all the time and it is always a treat. I'm grateful to be back with all my aunts and uncles, grandmothers and nephews.

My mom has three sibling. Pat the oldest, herself, and Stephanie and Steven who are the youngest, the twins. They are all here to honor their mom, my grandmother Betty, just as I am also here to honor my mom.

We are all blessed with a wealth of generations. Happy Mothers Day!
