Fur Seal, Sinclair Head

This is a sleepy male New Zealand fur seal (Maori name is kekeno) snapped at Sinclair Head, just south of Owhiro Bay. The area is colonised by male fur seals during winter months (from May to September) each year. Apparently, it's a "haul out" or resting place away from the breeding colonies. The coast was littered with these beautiful beasts who were all far too knackered to bother overly about a human photographer.

He looks cute large.

Shot with a 1960's lens on a GF1.
