The door to the Ladies Waiting Room Circa 1864
Today our builders began renovations that will allow my mum to be transferred by hoist from her bed to her sitting room though a new set of B&Q double doors. She has had Multiple Sclerosis since she was 28 years old. She is an amazing woman who never complains and always has a smile. We love her. Next month she will celebrate her 80th birthday!
In the process we have had to remove the original door to the Ladies Waiting Room.
It lies beside Bill's trailer awaiting storage for perhaps a future project.
Unless someone wants to buy it!!!!
The Station Masters house and Station buildings were built in 1864.
I often wonder about the lives of all the travellers who passed through these doors these last 146 years.
We do know that Beatrix Potter, who wrote the wonderful childrens story books about Peter Rabbit, Mrs Tiggiewinkle etc passed through this very door.
For eleven consecutive summers, the Potter family came to Dalguise House. Their only daughter, Beatrix was four when the family first travelled by train to Scotland in 1870. In 1884 when Beatrix was about 18 she wrote in her diary:
"Even when the thunder growled in the distance, and the wind swept up the valley in fitful gusts, oh it was always beautiful, home sweet home, I knew nothing of trouble then. "
I concur with her sentiments................this is Home Sweet Home
