Crap 'n Crunch
This picture was taken for a multimedia project I'm doing on memory. My earliest childhood memories, which occurred before I was three years old, involve breakfast: the fit I threw in Del Farm because my grandma wouldn't buy me "Crap 'n Crunch", the hard raisins in my Raisin Bran that tore up my raw throat the day after my tonsilectomy, and the wheatberry toast dripping with butter that my great grandmother used to fix for me.
Bits of sound have lodged themselves in my memory as well. I got my first record player sometime before kindergarten. I had two 45s of my own. My favorite was LITTLE BIT LATE by Lewis Wickman. I still remember the first few lines:
They reposessed my car, I said "I'll get it back again."
I'll fight those finance people till the end."
I had no idea what "reposessed my car" meant. I just liked the way the words sounded and the country singer's deep voice. It was a good education though -- in a few years, when my father's red Chevy Nova was reposessed, I could explain it to everyone. My dad never did fight the finance people though.
