Colour in the Clouds

I got a pleasant surprise today. For most of that day while I was stuck inside working, the sun was shining and I longed to be outside taking pictures. Of course, near the end of the day the sky started clouding over and I was afraid that it would start raining and I would lose any chance of getting a capture for the day. I had also agreed to help a friend purchase a new computer for her business and knew that was going to eat up a good portion of my evening. While she was answering phone calls in her car, I began looking around the parking lot for interesting shapes to capture. I was intrigued by this light standard cast against the clouds and moved around until the the top of the light hid the sun. I was experimenting with using different exposures - sampling from the light standard and the clouds. When i transferred the pictures to my computer, I was delighted to see that using the lights to block the direct sun gave me interesting colours as the light reflected through the clouds! An unexpected surprise!
