Fawn Lilies at Magalia
Six of us from my hiking group drove to Table Mountain near Oroville, California. Every spring this plateau erupts with millions of flowers carpeting the area between mounds of lava rocks. It's a beautiful sight every year, and if you catch it at the right time it's downright spectacular. Unfortunately, this was neither a particularly good year nor a particularly good time to catch the flowers.
We drove on to Magalia to see a patch of Fawn lilies we knew about and caught them at just the right time. There were more than any of us had ever seen there and they were at their peak This is a small sample growing among lovely serpentine rocks. They love the serpentine soils.
We had dinner at a Mexican restaurant in Oroville and spent the night in a motel there.
