Over the Horizon

Day dreams

I had planned an epic farewell hike from Stu´s pastures in Pilisurcu climbing up through the cloud forests to arrive in the paramo ridges running North to Tungapiti and then down through the tangled bamboo trails of the Gasualpampa valley and over to camp. Whew! I was so excited, but we have a few more sick students now and others recovering from the same bout so I don´t think my hike will happen....

Instead, I gave the morning off and wandered up over the valley to the grassy ridge overlooking the Gusualpampa valley. The view here is gorgeous and the wind catches the lip of the ridge making smooth undulations in the grass. It is a peaceful meditative place for me, and if you look the Earth is sculpted flat here, the telltale signs of those before me. There once stood a Canari home just above me. They sure picked a fantastic spot...

I nestled up in the high grass, cocooned in like a warm blanket as the breeze danced its fingers over the grass seed stalks poking up, like little bells. I fell asleep there and napped in the sunshine. Day dreaming of the past and future interwoven with fantasy, like a sort of magical realism dreamtime.

Mmmm, I´m reluctant to leave knowing now that I wont´t be back. I am always like this though. I want to savor it to the very end to stow the memoreis away clear and bright for a rainy day.
