But these pick-ups are very important.
They measure the displacement of the shaft.
The shaft slides a bit aft and forth according to the load.
That has to be in limits because otherwise the blades of the turbines might touch the casings in which they run at 3000 rpm.
You cannot imagine what kind of damage that would give....
