No, it's not a hill covered with snow but two thermocouples peeping out of the insulation of the MP (Medium Pressure) steamturbine.
The thermocouples are used to monitor the temperature of the metal of the steamturbine, especially important when we start up the unit.
Steamtemperatures must be about 30-40°C. above the temperature of the turbine on startup; not higher or lower because that can give great damage.
The insulation has a thicknes of about 40-50 centimetres on the turbine (rockwool and spray-on insulation)
