Rescue On The High Seas

Rub a dub, dub, 3 men in a boat - the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker ...............
I don't think so!
The drug runner, his minder and the boat owner is nearer the mark.

It was a day at sea today and I was up fairly early so I went to take some shots of the boat that you wouldn't normally get because of all the people getting in the way -- bar displays, abstract reflections, decorations ..... that sort of thing.

As I was finishing there was a tannoy announcement saying that the church service was being cancelled due to a maritime rescue.
Obviously another exercise to follow on from yesterdays lifeboat drill.
Not sure why they would cancel a church service for that though.
But No ....... it was a real rescue. A wee boat with 3 "fishermen" had both its massive engines fail and they had been adrift for 3 days. (Obviously none of them were very good with the one fishing rod they had on board because they had no fish).

The coastguard were contacted and eventually decided to come out and see what was going on.
When they arrived (after 2 or 3 hours) they entered negotiations with our ships Captain as to whether the "fishermen" went home with them or became passengers on out cruise while their boat was set adrift (crazy I know - but this is the Caribbean).
After quite some time the coastguard offloaded the "fishermen" and headed back to Grenada complete with fishing boat in tow.

So after sitting - or should I say, drifting - for half a day we set off on our merry way again.

Judging by the strange marks on my back this evening I would say that SWMBO missed some bits with the sun tan lotion.

This evening was 'Black Tie' evening so it was the chance to get the tux on.
SWMBO and L (hereafter to be known as The Captains Mate) were the most glamorous girls on board of course.

The official ships photographers don't half get stroppy when you take shots of "their" set up - even though you don't get the use of the studio lights and the ambient light is just horrible with a mix of about 6 different kind of light sources making it impossible to get a worthwhile shot
