An angel (of the north) watching over us

Today was the day of the funeral of the sons of S, my best friend from University.

Although very sad, especially given the tragic circumstances of their deaths, the funeral service was lovely. We recited the Manx national anthem, then listened to poems, music, and an extract from Hancock's Half Hour. The songs were:

Mr Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan
Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns N' Roses
I Wanna Be Adored by the Stone Roses
Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy) by John Lennon

The coffins were brought in to A Fistful of Dollars by Ennio Morricone.

There were also two readings. The first was an extract from Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo, and the second came from the last chapter of The Return of the King (the third and final volume of Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings). I delivered the former.

After spending time with the family we set off back up the road to Edinburgh. I managed my blip of the Angel of the North from the A1 as we zoomed past.

Exercise today: none.
