Transformation Thursday
As you may already know, im a HUGE Candlebox fan. I seen them last year at Penns Peak with Hinder for their 20th anniversary tour... Let me tell you, it was one of the best shows ive ever seen. Before the show even stareted, i seen a familiar face walking around outside... It was Kevin! The lead singer of Candlebox! So what was my reaction? To chase him down and get a picture of course! He's such a cool guy, let me tell you!
So, a few months ago my mom spotted a show he (and Candleboxes bassist Adam Kury) was doing in Belfast PA (about 45 minutes out of Jim Thorpe, i believe) in a small restaurant. There were only 50 tickets being sold and we immediately bought tickets.
This day in particular, we were expecting a huge snow storm, great. Theres nothing better than driving home in a blizzard (Just ask me about when i seen Heart!)... But anyway, we made it there and ended up waiting in the car until the restaurant opened. All day we seen people walking in and out of the venue carrying microphones and all types of gear. Fast foward, we made it. There were a few rows of chairs set up and i snagged one in the front row, of course. So, the guy who was selling said tickets was going to open up the show with his band... I would rather not even think about it. They were just so terrible. They played the song Would? by Alice in Chains AND COMPLETELY MESSED IT UP!
Ugh. Im just going to stop, they were just so terrible. So Kevin and Adam came on and it was just amazing. They played songs from every candlebox album and it was magic. Everyone in the room was hypnotized by not only the intimacy of the show, but how good the guys really were acoustically. Again, after the show they came out and greeted fans.
I approached Kevin with the setlist i had asked him for after the show, he signed it and said "hey, sorry we didnt play Lucy..." (he continued to talk about how they forgot or whatever) because i had tweeted him and told him that if he played Lucy, i'd die happy... Pathetic, right?
and then he said. "Werent you at the Penns Peak show?! I remember you!"
After he haid that, i had basically died. We contined a converstation and eventually we left... I actually met Adam in the parking lot while i was sobbing that Kevin had remembered me... He was super cool and i'm super glad that i was able to make it to yet another amazing show.
