Grebe family feeding
Another image of the crested grebes. They are now catching quite big fish to feed to the young. Both parents are still involved with the caring and feeding of the chicks. Sometimes one goes away fishing then returns with the fish for the young. The parents may even pass this fish between themselves and make sure its in the right position for the chick to take it. The chick then tilts its neck up and back and swallows.
Good news the council have left a considerable strip of un-mown verge and long grasses and reeds where the ducks and grebes are nesting. Their nests and night sleeping places are more protected this way.
