Festival of Lights

The Festival of Lights is celebrated later here in southern India. The sisters have prepared for the evening by chalking out decorative kolam outside the guest house door, either with pre-made forms from metal tins or freestyle, by hand. Each clay bowl is filled with oil and a homemade wick is inserted and lit. The sidewalk and steps leading to the door were all aglow, like many of the entrances in Pondicherry tonight.
