Dressed for Advent

All decorations are taken down in Advent, the four weeks before Christmas, in Anglican churches, to symbolise the bleakness of existence without the presence of Christ.

The altar covering is purple - perhaps an indicator of royalty and power to come? The Greek symbols for Alpha and Omega, the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet indicate that God is the beginning and end of all.
