Never much liked running. Enough one or two week tries at 'getting fit' over many years, all for just getting stitches and shoulder/knee pain.

Curiosity got the better of me this afternoon.

After almost a year of solid paddling I'm probably fitter that I've ever been. I had bought these trainers to use in the K1, but having gone back to wetsuit boots in the ski, they were looking a bit neglected. So I popped them on and headed out into the clear, cold dusk.

Actually quite enjoyed it for once, and what was intended as a quick 2-3km jaunt to Double Locks turned into a 6km trundle round most of the valley. Felt pretty comfortable the whole time and could put in the odd sprint interval without bringing myself to a standstill. Not sure 9 minute miles are going to set the world alight, but given that I have the physique of a midget rugby player, maybe not too bad for a first attempt.

Might even do it again...
