After Eight or Manners Maketh

First of all two matters from yesterday:
1)The new supermarket REWE in Ottobeuren: up until now we have had mainly the poor discounters (no Aldi or Lidl) and one regionally based branch of a chain that tries to source their products locally but is expensive and lacks flair. REWE is a Germany's second largest chain and is "full range" and with own brands. Clean, bright, spacious and interesting. Own brands for essentials same price as discounters but a 1-Stop place.

2) Last night Angie took the dogs out for a quick walk in the pitch black, over the fields. At some point she realised Luna wasn't about and despite lots of shouting, she had to return home with just Flash. Luna was waiting for her. Seems she ran in to an electric fence, just as she did on 27 Nov 2012, her third day with us. She spent the whole evening looking at Angie, as if blaming her for the shock which came from nowhere.
----------------------
Weather remained very British, could have been somewhere in the Fens. Set off  to Erkheim with the dogs and we walked over to Daxberg and back. Five minutes in to the walk, Luna dashed in to the undergrowth alongside a stream and suddenly we heard "Splosh". Went over to find Luna standing in the water, wet from head to tail and looking at me totally perplexed. Seems she must have slipped on the steep bank and ended up diving head first. I know she's convinced I pushed her in.

Then popped in to a shop "il pomodoro" in Erkheim which I have been meaning to visit for years, an Italian deli that is always advertising their direct import of Sicilian oranges. Owned by a German lady married to a Sicilian. Angie had wanted oranges to press and I thought she could try the real thing. Bought 2 kg costing 6.00 Euros. Owner reckoned they were almost too good to just press. Nice place, very friendly and ought to try using them for fruit and veg.

Then went to the local discounter "Penny" and saw 2kg nets of oranges for 1.50 Euros! In the evening tried the "real" oranges. Angie not knowing where the juice came from, could tell there was a difference, not as sweet (not a bad thing) , more intensive orangey taste. I noticed in a big difference in pressing, the fruit flesh/pulp had a very different texture and although almost dry, tasted very good, no pithy bitter bits at all. A shame to throw away as we would do with the standard oranges.

The price makes one gulp, 2kg oranges made 1 liter of juice costing 6 Euros. Probably too expensive for daily use but I can imagine when we do something special with oranges, we may try them again.

Day ended like the weather, very British. I came in again very late and certainly after 8:00pm and used my precious cheddar cheese to make Cheese on Toast served with my home made Branston pickle. Excellent. Although it was only "factory"cheddar probably made in Frankfurt, no cheese I know of melts & browns like Cheddar. The standard packaged Emmenthaler and Gouda don't stand a chance.

Should have rounded off the night with an After Eight. There is a very well known saying in Germany "Die feine englische Art" (The fine English Style) which was dreamed up by Nestle in 1972 to promote the product.  Still used today. It is now a standard phrase, often used in the negative sense to describe someone's action when they don't do something fairly, are rude or lacking in manners. (Redflash being a Winchester resident, no doubt knows all about Mannered young men:  NO not what you think but Winchester College's motto)

The sign appears to be in front of a one man wood turning/lathing business in Erkheim. Can't find too much info on the web and no sign of a shop attached to the house. Man's name is Mike Tingey, his website is down but from the other bits I could find, a bit of a "character"  There is a poor Youtube video (series of stills) of the opening of the business in 2013. No doubt an eccentic Englishman. Will try to find out more.

PS It was pure chance a Fendt tractor was passing by and spoilt the Blip. Only spotted it when I got home and saw the photo on the PC.

Is lying counted as bad manners?
