Thanksgiving Day...but will it happen?
Dear Diary,
The table is set...the brined turkey is ready to go into the oven but I have been without power since 5 pm yesterday, 18 hours and counting. Thankfully I have a generator so the heat and lights are on but the oven isn't on the system. No phone service either and I had to get a ladder out and clean off the satellite dish on the roof so the internet would come back on-line so I could post this!
It is a beautiful day but most of southern Maine is without power so Thanksgiving may be delayed but just so I won't feel too bad, I will go down to the pond this afternoon and see what wonders this storm has left there. I am sure I will not be disappointed. I may not be able to cook my turkey and host my dinner party today but the landscape at the pond will be my Thanksgiving treat.
Hope all of you who are celebrating today have a wonderful time with family and friends.
I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual. It is surprising how contented one can be with nothing definite - only a sense of existence. ...O how I laugh when I think of my vague indefinite riches. No run on my bank can drain it, for my wealth is not possession but enjoyment.
Henry David Thoreau
